Sedation Dentistry
Sedation Dentistry at Inglewood
Sedation dentistry is often used with patients struggling with anxiety at the dentist. Dental work can be frightening and painful for many patients, so Inglewood Dental offers sedation dentistry to assist in anxiety management during oral treatments. We don’t want our patients to start avoiding the dentist due to this anxiety, so we do our best to make you as comfortable as possible. We practice informed and compassionate care and strive to make dental appointments low-stress.
IV Sedation Dentistry
An anesthesiologist can administer this type of sedation. IV sedation is a general anesthetic administered intravenously. Anaesthesia is administered directly into the patient’s veins and is effective for shorter procedures with less complexity, as this method of sedation isn’t as intense as others. However, an anesthesiologist is still present to monitor vitals and sedation levels while patients undergo various dental procedures.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation Dentistry
You may have heard of nitrous oxide sedation before, but you’ve probably heard it be called “laughing gas.” It is administered through a mask which covers the mouth and nose, and the gas quickly takes effect quite quickly. However, it does not take complete effect, as patients can usually hear their surroundings while sedated with nitrous oxide. The name “laughing gas” comes from the common giggling side effect of this sedation method.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation does not put patients completely to sleep and instead just creates a sleepy and relaxed feeling. The sedative is administered via pills provided by the dentist, which will be taken at specific times before the procedure (usually an hour or two). These medications are usually triazolam, zaleplon, or lorazepam. Oral sedation medications can occasionally come in liquid form.
